With a career spanning multiple facets of the healthcare industry, I am a dedicated professional committed to making a lasting impact. My journey has taken me through Nephrology & Hypertension, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, and Hospice, each experience deepening my comprehensive understanding of healthcare and patient needs.
Continuing my commitment to healthcare education and advocacy, I recently earned my doula certification and completed the Strengthening Community Health Worker Program at Harvard University. This prestigious program allows me to expand my expertise in community health, ensuring I stay at the forefront of providing equitable healthcare solutions. Furthermore, I provide healthcare education to incarcerated individuals at the Schenectady County Jail, ensuring that underserved populations receive the knowledge and resources they need to improve their well-being and access better healthcare services.
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, I took on a pivotal role as a NYS Contact Tracer, contributing to the collective effort to manage the crisis. Currently, my passion for patient care manifests in home care, where I find fulfillment in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.
My passion for healthcare education extends beyond clinical settings. In 2015, I attained licensure from the New York State Education Department's Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) to teach phlebotomy, EKG, and the Medical Assistant program. With ten years of teaching experience, I have shared my knowledge at institutions such as Branford Hall Career Institute and Schenectady Community College.
In a bold and determined move, I independently founded my own business in February 2020 during the pandemic, becoming the first Black woman in the Capital Region to achieve this milestone. My business, certified as a Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE), continues to thrive, bridging gaps in healthcare education and workforce development. Additionally, I am a commissioned New York State Notary Public.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in perseverance and the belief that giving up is never an option. I strive to guide and inspire my students, instilling in them a hunger for knowledge and the dedication required for long-term success in their careers. Having graduated over seven hundred students, I take immense pride in witnessing their achievements and assisting them in securing employment opportunities that align with their aspirations.
My dedication has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, I received several prestigious accolades, including the Shining Star award from the CNYS Bluebird Organization Inc., the Empire Whole Health Heroes award from Empire BlueCross, and recognition from the Phi Theta Kappa Beta Rho Kappa Chapter honor society and the National Leadership and Success Organization. In 2024, I was honored as a 40 Under 40 recipient, and my organization was ranked the Best Education Center in Albany, NY, a testament to our commitment to excellence in healthcare education.
Beyond my professional achievements, I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the YWCA, an organization dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Additionally, I actively contribute to the Capital Region Workforce Development Board Coalition, where I support the growth and development of the healthcare workforce, ensuring that future generations of professionals are well-equipped to meet the industry’s evolving demands.
My passion for service extends further as a member of the WMHT Advisory Board and a proud supporter of the Schenectady Scholars Charter School, where I work to inspire and empower the next generation. As an Adult Achiever for the Black & Latino Achievers program of the Capital District YMCA, I am deeply committed to fostering mentorship and creating opportunities that uplift and support the community.
With unwavering dedication to healthcare, education, and community service, I continue striving to create meaningful change, ensuring that equitable opportunities exist for all individuals seeking to improve their lives and careers.
