 An EKG technician is a medical professional who administers tests to record and analyze electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. A technician typically works in a doctor's office, clinic, or hospital and often runs the tests as a regular part of pre-surgery screening. Tests are also commonly performed by the technician as part of a general physical examination of a middle-aged person or one who has experienced past cardiovascular problems. Our course prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and nurses, to administer EKG and ECG diagnostic examinations and report results to the treatment team. To conduct a basic EKG test, the technician relaxes the patient as much as possible to get the most accurate results. S/He attaches three to 12 electrodes to specific points on the patient's legs, chest, and arms. A nearby EKG machine reads the impulses generated by the electrodes. The test results, which are displayed as wave tracings, are printed onto paper. The technician reviews them and ordinarily highlights areas of concern before giving them to a physician for analysis. 

EKG TECHNICIAN WORKPLACE TASKS:

• Communicate with others in the healthcare setting using appropriate terminology related to the cardiovascular system  
• Correctly and efficiently use the EKG machine and related supplies and equipment  
• Accurately identify the difference between a normal sinus rhythm and abnormal rhythms  
• Correctly measure the heart rate using the EKG machine  
• Properly prepare a patient for an EKG test using a 12-lead EKG 
• Practice all safety procedures related to an EKG test  
• Interpret basic EKG rhythm strips using a basic interpretation approach  
• Identify common EKG arrhythmias 
• Assist the provider in diagnostic EKG tests, ambulatory tests, and rehabilitative modalities related to the EKG

Practice 2 Perfect Training Center, LLC has partnered with NPS who is accredited by P.A.C.E which are members of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) and a division of the National Association for Competency Testing, National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health (AAH) and licensed by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS). The average success rate of the National Certification Exam from the previous classes has been 100%.
